The effects of ageing on your skin can be significant. Not only can the dermal layer thin over time, but less collagen is produced and the fibres that provide elasticity wear out. Changes such as these can cause the skin to wrinkle and sag.
If you recognise the signs of ageing, there is no need to worry. Help is close at hand in the form of various treatments. One of those is Sculptra, a modern-day treatment that works differently from traditional fillers.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a unique collagen replenishing treatment which helps to gradually and subtly reduce lines, wrinkles and folds in the skin. By helping to replenish your own facial collagen and restore lost volume, it can give you a fuller, more natural look that can last for up to 25 months.
Sculptra treats most areas of your face that may be concerning you, particularly deeper lines, wrinkles and folds. It has proven to be an effective treatment for sunken cheeks, indentations and hollow cheeks. On average three treatments are required and results should be noticeable within a matter of six weeks. (In some patients this may take longer or require more treatments).
The main ingredient of Sculptra is poly-l-lactic acid (PLA), which has been successfully used in surgical operations for more than 25 years. At the outset, Sculptra was developed to repair facial scars and contour defects. It is not only long-lasting, but biocompatible and biodegradable too.
Lasting for up to two years, the treatment is often known as ‘liquid face lift’ because of the stunning results it gives in thickening skin, restoring facial contours and smoothing out lines and wrinkles. The injectable product is used to stimulate the production of collagen and is ideal for restoring volume where there are signs of facial fat loss or lipoatrophy.
The PLA present in Sculptra is diluted in sterile water and then injected under the surface of the skin. These particles stimulate the production of collagen in the skin and over time, increases volume.
