Estetica_chemical_PeelDo you suffer with acne or wrinkles caused by sun damage? Maybe you want to reduce fine lines under the eyes or around the mouth or improve the look and feel of skin that is dull in texture and colour. If so, why not consider a Chemical Peel?

A Chemical Peel is a body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin, thus the term Chemical Peel is derived.

Treatment opportunities

Some types of chemical peel can be purchased and administered without a medical license. However, people considering such treatment, are advised to seek professional help from a specialist before a procedure is performed. Here at Estetica, we are fortunate to have a full member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Parisa Bahramian, who carries out the treatment. Parisa is a skilled and experienced pharmacist with a passion for knowledge and a desire to develop new ways of helping her clients enhance their features.

Light chemical peels

Light chemical peels are not only extremely popular treatments, but they are the most superficial of all chemical peels. It means there is literally NO downtime. These peels are often called "lunchtime peels" because you can get one done quickly over a lunch hour and return to work directly afterwards. During the treatment, the skin is exfoliated using an alpha or beta hydroxy acid. The treatment can improve mild to moderately severe cases of acne and can be given over the face or other body area where acne is a problem. The peel is also used to soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin texture and fade discolorations.

How it Works and What to Expect

Chemical Peels rapidly exfoliate the skin, allowing dead skin cells to shed more effectively. By keeping dead skin cells and excess oil from clogging the hair follicle, pore blockages (comedones) and pimples can be drastically reduced. During your peel treatment, the skin is first thoroughly cleansed and dried before the AHA or BHA is applied. The length of time the peeling agent is left on varies, but the average is about 10 minutes. Thereafter, the peel is removed with cool water and a neutralizing agent. Once the skin is dried, the peel is complete.

The nature of the treatment means the skin will look a little sunburnt. This redness can fade in a few hours or last up to five days, depending on the strength of the peeling agent used and how long it was left on the skin. You might also experience peeling or flaking of the skin and or burning during the treatment. These side-effects are common and nothing to worry about.
