When it comes to cosmetic surgery, if you've never had a procedure carried out before it's understandable to be nervous. After all, you don't know what to expect. If you're considering Botox at the moment, here are five questions you might have and the answers provided to help you feel more at ease with it all.

What is Botox?

This is simply a drug that is injected into your skin to block the signals your nerves send to your muscles that instruct them to contract. This temporary paralysation means that your wrinkles will be less obvious.

Can it prevent wrinkles and fine lines?

It's important not to start Botox too early as you can actually over-weaken your muscles if they're too young for such injections. This will mean your skin could actually sag as a result. In fact, you could end up with new wrinkles and lines if you use Botox as a preventative strategy since other muscles can start to be used to replace the ones you've frozen.

Are there any risks?

Like any kind of cosmetic surgery, it's important you find a clinic or doctor that really knows what they're doing and has a huge amount of experience. If the Botox spreads or it's been injected toO close to the muscle that raises your eyelid, for example, you could find the lid droops somewhat. If it's injected too low on your forehead, you could also see your brows droop - although this is temporary and you'll have to wait for the Botox to wear off. Just make sure you find a clinic that has the relevant experience and skills, and you'll be fine.

How long does it last?

You should see the effects of your Botox treatments for between three and four months, so bear in mind that you may need to go back for further treatments after that if you're happy with the results.
